Genspect on President Trump’s Executive Order on Gender Ideology in US Federal Policy
By Genspect
Today, President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.” The order implements sweeping changes to federal policy regarding sex and gender identity.
The Executive Order:
- Establishes government-wide recognition that sex is binary and clearly defines male and female
- Orders the removal of guidance, communications, policies, and forms promoting gender ideology
- Federal agencies must stop substituting gender identity for sex when enforcing sex discrimination laws
- Establishes the definition of “woman” as “adult human female”
- Requires all government identification and records, including passports, to reflect sex rather than self-declared gender identity
- Ends the housing of male prisoners in women’s prisons and stops taxpayer funding for prisoner “transition” procedures
- Protects First Amendment and statutory rights by ending forced use of “preferred pronouns” and upholding Americans’ right to recognize the binary nature of sex, including in workplaces and federally funded institutions
Genspect welcomes this executive order’s establishment of clear definitions in federal policy. The directives to maintain sex-based documentation across government systems provide necessary clarity for policy implementation and public services.
The order’s provisions regarding single-sex spaces demonstrate that sex, not gender identity, must be the basis for access to facilities where safety and fairness are paramount. This is particularly relevant for prisons, where the order ends cross-sex housing arrangements. While Genspect supports providing gender-neutral facilities as an additional option in appropriate settings, maintaining sex-based protections is crucial in these contexts.
On the matter of language, Genspect has long maintained that truthful communication about sex takes precedence over ideological demands. The order’s protection of First Amendment rights aligns with this position by ending compelled pronoun use in workplaces and federally funded institutions. While individuals may choose to use preferred pronouns as a courtesy, mandating such usage interferes with necessary discussions about sex-based differences that impact safety and wellbeing.
These policy changes reflect a growing recognition that sex matters in law and policy. By maintaining clear definitions and protecting sex-based rights while upholding free speech, this order takes important steps toward evidence-based policymaking. As an organization committed to promoting a healthy and non-medicalized approach to gender-related distress, we encourage policymakers worldwide to ensure that clear language and evidence, rather than ideology, guide decisions about sex and gender.
