The Best of Graham Linehan with Genspect

By Genspect

Graham Linehan’s arrest yesterday at Heathrow Airport on suspicion of “mean tweets” stunned the world.

It wasn’t just the outrageous notion that an offhand insult now warrants state investigation as a hate crime or the chilling effect of such blatant political intimidation in one of the world’s great democracies; it was a stark reminder of the pathological threat posed by trans activism.

It was once understood that adulthood is defined by the capacity for rational discourse—the ability to balance emotion with reason. This quality, writ large, makes civilization possible. Historically, repressing such impulses wasn’t merely about the whims of the powerful but a response to the existential threat of chaos and war, with which earlier societies were all too familiar.

The demand that we all bow to an individual’s eccentric beliefs about themselves is a recipe for barbarism that we have indulged for far too long. Fortunately, most people instinctively prioritize reason over emotion. Imagine if J.K. Rowling, or others targeted by trans activists’ insults, reported them as “hate crimes”? Most are not so thin-skinned, nor do they believe such actions would resolve enmity. This assumes, however, that institutions like the police exist to intervene when disagreement crosses into violence.

The British police have repeatedly shown they no longer uphold the rational priorities of tolerance and proportionality—and that is deeply concerning.

Graham Linehan’s arrest may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. We hope so.

Below, we’ve compiled some of Graham Linehan’s best moments with Genspect over the years. We also encourage you to consider contributing to the Free Speech Union fundraiser on his behalf:

Finally, we invite you to hear Graham in person at the Genspect Bigger Picture conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 27th and 28th. Tickets are available here.
