Genspect Contributes to HSE Ireland’s Gender Healthcare Evidence Review

Genspect has submitted peer-reviewed research to HSE Ireland’s consultation on their updated Model of Care for gender healthcare services.
What HSE Is Doing
HSE is reviewing evidence to answer two questions:
- What clinical needs exist in populations attending gender services?
- What are the clinical outcomes of medical interventions like hormone therapy?
They’ve reviewed 2,000+ papers and included 168 studies so far. Now they want public input to ensure nothing important is missed.

What We’ve Submitted
We’ve sent peer-reviewed research focusing on clinical outcomes—the second question that often gets less attention but matters enormously.
Our submissions cover:
- Long-term health impacts after medical interventions
- Mental health trajectories across different treatment paths
- Detransition experiences from international cohorts
- Autism/ADHD co-occurrence in gender-referred populations
- Cardiovascular, bone health, and fertility outcomes
- Surgical outcomes and revision rates
Why This Matters
Understanding who seeks services is important. But knowing what happens to them afterwards? That’s essential.
HSE’s review of clinical needs provides valuable context. Our outcomes research adds another crucial piece—what actually happens when people take different paths through gender-related distress.
