A compassionate mother gets a compassionate hearing

By Angus Fox

The wonderful Arty Morty has been speaking up for parents for some time – and this interview is a great example. Here, “Eleanor” — a Genspect parent who featured in the Quillette series When Sons Become Daughters — talks about her adolescent son’s distress over his gender, her fears about internet use, and the support she has found through a parent support group.

To start out, Eleanor “drank the Kool-aid” (as she puts it), until she realized her son had been influenced by — of all things — an online bot. That discovery set in chain a process of learning about the social contagion to which her son had been subjected, eventually leading to her current activism.
