“The Handsome Little Cygnet”: a beautiful antidote to a disembodied age

By Angus Fox

Genspect has come across a stunningly illustrated new children’s book retelling the classic fable, “The Ugly Duckling.” As our protagonist – the titular handsome little cygnet – wanders through Manhattan’s Central Park, he learns that beguiling messages can often lead little cygnets astray… and that Momma and Papa Swan really do know best.

In our disembodied age, children’s authors are taking up the cause of compassionate parenting – something which many Genspect parents will doubtless prize. With so much of the messaging directed at children encouraging them to frame their parents’ concerns as antiquated prejudices, it’s vital to have works like “The Handsome Little Cygnet” putting mothers’ and fathers’ love front and center.
