Detrans Awareness Day 2026
Life Beyond Transition
Washington D.C., 12 March 2026
About the Conference
The Detrans Awareness Day Conference 2026 brought together detransitioners, clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and members of the public in Washington, D.C. on March 12, 2026. Organised by Genspect, the event focused on the theme “Life Beyond Transition”, highlighting the experiences of people who have stopped or reversed medical gender transition and exploring the realities they face afterwards. It represented what organisers described as the largest in-person gathering of detransitioners ever held.

The conference marked a significant moment in bringing together voices that have often been isolated or unheard. The Importance of the Event
The Detrans Awareness Day Conference plays an important role in broadening public discussion about gender medicine and long-term outcomes of transition. While public attention has often focused on access to medical transition, the experiences of people who later detransition or feel uncertain about their transition have historically received far less attention.

By creating a space where detransitioners can speak openly about their experiences, the conference helps to highlight an area of healthcare that many participants believe requires greater research, clinical guidance, and social support. The event also provided a rare opportunity for attendees to meet others who share similar experiences, reducing feelings of isolation.
More broadly, the conference encouraged ongoing conversation among healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public about how best to support individuals across the full range of gender-related experiences. Understanding life beyond transition is an important part of developing compassionate, informed approaches to care and policy in the years ahead.
The Next Conference
Building on the momentum of the 2026 gathering, organisers have announced plans for the next Detrans Awareness Day Conference, scheduled for 2027. The future event aims to continue expanding dialogue around detransition, bringing together individuals with lived experience alongside researchers, clinicians, and policymakers to explore developments in care, research, and public understanding.
Because interest in the 2026 event exceeded expectations, a waiting list will be open for those wishing to attend the 2027 conference. Joining the waiting list allows prospective participants to receive early updates about dates, location, speaker announcements, and ticket availability once registration opens.
